Project Overview

Poor oral health can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease yet there is limited focus on this during cardiac care in Australia. This project aims to develop an oral health model where cardiac clinicians can promote oral health.

Aims & Objectives

The aim of this project is to develop an oral health model of care where cardiac clinicians are capacity built to promote oral health among clients. The five phases of this project include:

Conducting literature reviews to map the existing evidence in this area
Explore the perceptions of people who have cardiovascular conditions and clinicians towards oral health care
Understand the oral health status, behaviours and knowledge of cardiovascular patients
To develop and test a cardiovascular oral health screening tool for cardiac care clinicians to screen and facilitate dental referrals among people with CVD in Australia
To investigate the oral health related Quality of Life [OHRQoL] of people with cardiovascular conditions
