Project Overview
Although oral health models of care exist for pregnant women, these may not be culturally appropriate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The Grinnin’ Up Mums & Bubs project aimed to work together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to create and pilot test a culturally-safe model of oral health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pregnant women.
Aims & Objectives
This project aimed to develop and pilot test a culturally safe antenatal oral health model of care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women during pregnancy. The study employed a participatory action research approach to collaborate with Aboriginal Health Workers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The study was conducted over three phases:
- Review the existing literature
- Explore the perspectives of Aboriginal Health Workers and Aboriginal pregnant women
- Develop and pilot the model of care
Alignment with ACIOH’s themes
Workforce reoriented:
